Restoring Our Cathedral, Renewing Our Commitment Together Under His Gaze
We seek your support to restore and preserve our Cathedral.
Our Cathedral shows signs of significant distress, resulting in visible damage to the iconography, crumbling stucco, and water leakage in the nave during rainstorms. These issues have raised concerns about the structural integrity and aesthetic preservation of this important part of our building.
In response, a dedicated subcommittee was formed to address these problems. After a thorough investigation and a detailed condition assessment, it became clear that action is required to prevent further deterioration.
The damage to the Cathedral occurred due to several critical issues during construction.
First, the drawings and specifications provided by the architect were merely conceptual, leaving the contractor and subcontractor to interpret the details on their own. This lack of precise guidance resulted in inconsistent and often subpar execution of the work.
Furthermore, the quality of workmanship and materials used in various areas was poor. Without detailed instructions and oversight, this lead to the deterioration we're now witnessing.
Our Vision
This fundraising will restore our Cathedral and renew our commitment together under His gaze, fostering a united community dedicated to faith, fellowship, and the preservation of our sacred space for generations to come.
Restore and preserve the Cathedral to prevent further damage.
Ensure the structural integrity and aesthetic beauty of our Cathedral.
Address and eliminate water leakage.
-
Caulking has pulled away from the dome, allowing water to enter.
-
Water damage has come in on the side of the Crucifixion iconography.
-
High humidity and improper sealing has caused damage to the window frames.
About the costs
We want to assure you that the quality of materials and skilled labor will not be compromised. We recognize the importance of maintaining high standards, and we will prioritize the use of durable materials and experienced professionals to ensure the longevity and success of the project.
Our primary focus is to address the water infiltration issue and prevent further damage to the iconography. This aspect of the scope of work will be given the highest priority to protect the integrity and value of the iconography.
In the meantime, we have completed a temporary "band-aid" solution to attempt to mitigate additional water infiltration and further damage to the iconography. This interim measure is not a long-term solution, but hopefully will help reduce water damage in the short term.

To ensure this kind of damage wont happen again, several important steps are planned. First, we retained an engineering firm that specializes in building exterior envelopes. This firm provides us with the expertise needed to handle the specific challenges of this project.
Next, the engineering firm created detailed engineering drawings, moving away from conceptual plans. This will give clear, precise instructions to the contractors, minimizing any room for misinterpretation.
The contractor will build a full-scale mock-up of the dormer window to dome. This allows us to test and prove the design, ensuring it can be consistently performed. It also gives workers the opportunity to qualify on the installation method.
Finally, on-site inspections of the work will be performed by an engineer representing us. This ensures continuous oversight and quality control throughout the project, addressing any issues as they arise. These measures collectively will help us avoid the problems we faced in the past and ensure a successful restoration of our Cathedral.
